HENCH-NEWS - 10/04/01

Well, keeping with the tradition of a revolving door for HENCHMYN band members, we'd like to announce the recent re-addition of former (and now current) alto saxophone player DAN HAZLET. Dan took a year off from the band to teach middle school in is hometown of Denver, Co. He had a great time but decided to move back to Los Angeles to get his California teaching credential and play with us again. I think he hadn't decided to move back until he came out here on vacation a couple months ago and played a couple shows with us... and everyone knows that once you go Hench, you never go back! Resistance is futile! So make sure you go up to him at a HENCHMYN event and say "hi" and "welcome back" and "what's the deal with the dress?" and anything else you might be thinking at the time; he'll really appreciate it.

On a sad note, HENCHMYN trombone player JEREMY NANCE has left the band in order to concentrate on playing bass in his other band SEROTONIN, which describes themselves as "psychodelic-lounge-funk" or something like that. We'd like to thank Jeremy or "Double-J" as we like to call him for 2+ years of being part of HENCHMYN and the H.E.P. horn section. We wish him well in his future endeavors.

In other news, bassist GREG DODD has moved to San Diego, where he is originaly from. Although he's not living in L.A. anymore, he's only a couple hours down the freeway, so he's still going to play with us. Next time you see Greg, ask him for some fish tacos or something. Also, tenor man COLIN MOSS is taking a 1 month hiatus from HENCHMYN in order to visit his family back home in Maine.

It might interest all of you to know that there are some HENCHMYN side projects going on as well... For instance, singer and guitarist ADAM KORN has also been playing with another band called THE CHANNELS. This band features members of the long-time Los Angeles ska band SEE SPOT. This new group plays roots reggae, rocksteady and traditional ska, somewhat in the vein of HEPCAT. Check 'em out, you won't be disapointed!

The plans for a new HENCHMYN album are still in the works. We know we've been saying that for a long time now, but it seems that it's for real this time. We have pretty much decided on which songs we're going to put on it and we think we have a producer picked out as well. More news on this as it develops, but we're happy to say that the material for the new CD is definitely the best stuff we've ever written!
