HENCH-NEWS - 4/17/01

Alright, par usual, it's been quite a while since we've posted a recent HENCH-NEWS page. That doesn't, however, mean that there haven't been a million things happening with your favorite Southern California ska band. Here's the latest:

We've been going through a couple personnel changes here in Henchland. Original singer and co-founder of the band, Vince Lucido , has decided to hang up the vocal chords after 5 1/2 years due to his blossoming career in the story-board artist business. We wish him luck in his future endeavors. Adam Korn, Henchmyn's original guitarist and also a co-founder of the band is taking over on lead vocal duty. Original keyboardist Brian Nichols is also calling it quits because of his busy career in the sales business. We'll miss his craziness and expert ivory tickling, but hey, that's just the way it is... Also, Dan Hazlett, our alto saxophone player has moved back home to Denver, CO after graduating from U.C.L.A. with his Masters of Music. He is now teaching music at a middle school and enjoying every minute of it. We all wish him well.

But just because we've lost some people, doesn't mean the size of our band has shrunk. In fact, we're pleased to announce the addition of one new member to the Henchmyn family and his name is Colin Moss. Colin is our new tenor saxophone player who hails from the East Coast; actually, Maine of all places. He is an excellent lobster fisherman and is currently studying to be an actor. Colin has played his many saxophones and sung in a number of bands before joining Henchmyn and promises to be an outstanding addition to the H.E.P. horn section. Make sure to say "hello" to him at an upcoming show.

In other news, we'd like to thank Fishbone for having us on the bill of a great show at the Key Club at the end of 2000. We had a great time playing with those guys, as well as Green Jelly, The Flying Cordovas and all the other bands. We'd also like to thank Emily Weber from Boston's E.S.D.O. (Ever Since Day One) for sitting in on a few songs.

We also want to thank the people at Rusty's Surf Ranch in Santa Monica, CA for putting on a great Skavaganja II show in January. It was a lot of fun and great to play with so many awesome ska and reggae bands. Thanks also to all those who made it down from Santa Barbara; you guys danced your asses off!

Alright, that's about it for now... Keep your eye out for Henchmyn playing around your neck of the woods; don't hesitate to come up and say "hi" at a show, and thanks for supporting the scene!
